As part of Transparency International Canada’s mission to promote how Canadians can uphold transparency and combat corruption, TI Canada will be presenting the 3rd instalment of the Canadian Integrity Award at the Toronto Day of Dialogue on November 30, 2023.  

The Canadian Integrity Award recognizes an individual or organization who has demonstrated a commitment to tackle corruption and uphold transparency while setting an example for other Canadians to take action.  

Submission of nominations

To be considered, candidates for the award must be nominated and the nominator must submit a letter of recommendation between 750-1000 words in English or French. If hyperlinks to news articles or videos are available to make the case for a nomination, these are encouraged. The contact information of the nominee must be included in the submission. 

Nominations will be closed at 11:59pm EST, Friday, October 13.

Previous winners of the Canadian Integrity Award: 

  • David Hutton, Senior Fellow at the Centre for Free Expression at Toronto Metropolitan University, in recognition of his work directly supporting whistleblowers as well as advocating for greater whistleblower protection at the provincial and federal levels. 

  • Denis Meunier, for his years in public service in the Canada Revenue Agency and FINTRAC, as well as his volunteering for TI Canada’s research and advocacy on improving anti-money laundering and beneficial ownership transparency. 

Criteria for Nominations 

  • The CIA is open to individuals and organizations who have promoted accountability and transparency in Canada. CIA nominees' contributions may be through research, reporting, advocacy, legislative changes, or policy changes to a sector or organization, or upholding the rule of law. 

  • TI Canada defines corruption as the abuse of a public position for private gain. Private gain can imply, but is not limited to, financial gain or patrimonial gain. By promoting transparency and accountability, award nominees have been influential in establishing or strengthening mechanisms that prevent corruption, expose corruption, or uphold rules that prevent corruption.  

Eligibility requirements: 

  • Nominations for the award may be for Canadian or non-Canadian residents, but the nominee’s actions must have had an impact in Canada; 

  • The activity of a nominee could have been taking place over multiple years, but actions must have taken place in the last 5 years; 

  • A current serving TI Canada employee or Board Member, or a current contractor cannot be a nominee for the award.  

Presentation of the Canadian Integrity Award 

The Canadian Integrity Award will be presented at the Toronto Day of Dialogue on November 30, 2023.  The award winner will be notified in October and arrangements will be made at that time for a live, virtual, or recorded presentation of the award. 

Award Selection 

All award nominations will be reviewed by an Award Selection Committee.
