On September 3rd, Transparency International Canada joined our Coalition partners at Canadians for Tax Fairness and Publish What You Pay Canada, in delivering a letter to Minister of Finance, Chrystia Freeland and Minister of Innovation, Science, and Economic Development, Navdeep Bains.

In the letter the Coalition recommends a publicly accessible beneficial ownership registry as part of Canada’s economic recovery priorities coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The letter also outlines technical evidence and new international insights to make the case for a publicly accessible beneficial ownership registry. It is the Coalition’s belief this registry will play a strong role to help rebuild Canada’s economy and enhance public safety for all Canadians moving forward during this challenging period.

The Coalition does acknowledge positive progress on this file thus far and applaud the federal government’s leadership in convening discussions with provinces and territories on beneficial ownership transparency.
